Ignition Interlock Device

An Ignition Interlock Device (IID) is a breathalyzer that prevents a car from starting if presented with alcohol.

Find Providers

You are required to blow into the mouthpiece and the car will start only if the breath alcohol content (BAC) presented is below the limit set by the state. Once the car is started, you are required to test randomly while you drive.

What You Need To Know

  • Make sure the ignition interlock provider has a good service record and a reliable product. Look for interlock providers that offer 24-hour mobile assistance and guaranteed response time.
  • A faulty device or poor customer service could leave you stranded and unable to operate your vehicle.
  • Ignition interlock devices are required to go through routine calibration inspections.
  • Don’t get caught off guard. Inquire about additional fees for services such as removal/reinstall for switching cars, change/missed/late appointments, violations, maintenance, etc.
